Tips to get something to eat or drink in Australia

In general, prices in Australia are pretty high. The supermarket prices in Australia are no different. The prices are much higher than what we’re used to in the Netherlands. When you can make your own meals, this is recommended. Keep in mind that three meals a day (bought in the supermarket) are going to cost you around 20 euros per person. But, of course, this could be higher, that depends on you. The costs will go down when you cook/share the groceries with others. Meat is also really expensive. You could replace this product which will save you a lot of money, too.

Going out to dinner every once in a while is also very nice. Australia has lots of cozy bistros and road restaurants. The food over there doesn’t have to be expensive at all. When you’re in a bistro, the prices will be around 20 euros per person per meal. In a real restaurant, the prices are a bit higher like around the 30-35 euros per person. If you want to save money, a good tip is to look for restaurants with a BYO-logo (Bring Your Own). This logo indicates that you’re allowed to bring your own wine (usually beer or other strong liquor is alright, you’d have to check inside and ask the restaurant/cafe, usually it’s not a problem). Remember to tell the waiter when you go in because sometimes (but not usually) it costs a small amount of money (1-2 euros per person). The fact that you can bring your own wine is powered by the Australian government. The catering sector has to have a liquor license. This is really expensive, which is why not everybody has it (completely). That’s why BYO is a good thing for everybody.

Whether you’re going camping for a long time without a fridge or you just want to cook low-budget, here you can find all the tips you’ll need! Australia is a western country and that’s why almost everything you can buy in the supermarkets in the Netherlands, you can also buy in an Australian supermarket.
