Departure tips for Australia

Tips for when leaving for Australia

At home, you probably have a packing list already, what’s even more probable is that there’s no way everything on that list is going to fit into your suitcase (tip: roll your clothes up instead of folding them). Think about all the things you can also just buy at your destination (sunscreen, flip-flops, books, etc.) or what you’re really not going to need (second jacket, lots of shoes) because it’s going to save you so much dragging. Think about the situations you’re going to be in by thinking step by step: Schiphol - layover - arrival Australia - hostel/camping - what will I be doing and what will I need?

TIP: Leave your trip open!!

During your trip, you’re going to adapt to a whole other lifestyle which is going to include using different things than you’d be using at home. This is really hard to imagine, so that’s why we advise people that plan on going for a longer time to, for example, buy lots of things there, book a single ticket and don’t make any reservations on the internet. “Leave yourself options!”

Baggagetip: those who buy more there get a chance to buy clothes that are more appropriate to the weather conditions, to try out local fashion, and to get a deal because things are generally cheaper in Australia than in the Netherlands. How many ladies haven’t we seen that had a full suitcase on their way over there, shopped till they dropped, just to have to leave some clothes behind? Go with an empty suitcase ladies! (and gentlemen, of course).
