Best time to leave for Australia

A good tip when traveling in Australia is to follow the sun. Do you have ‘enough’ time? Don’t have a plan yet? Take a look at the following website: Weatherzone. Here you can find the current weather forecast for that day and the following days.

It’s also handy to know that it really doesn’t matter when you start your journey. Unfortunately, not everybody has a choice! Tip: When you’re leaving to go to Australia on a randomly chosen date, it is a good idea to take weather conditions into account for the specific region/state/place. That way you know for sure the weather will be nice!

In June, July and August, it’s dry in Darwin (and environs) and the temperature is also really high. So, this is actually a really good time to be traveling through northern Australia. The rainy season also has its charms. Keep in mind that your possibilities will be limited because roads could be flooded (even the highways), national parks might not be as accessible as before and there’s a chance there are crocodiles in the inland waters, which makes swimming impossible.

Summer vacation

Remember that Australians have summer vacation halfway through December and that means that certain (public) areas, museums, parks etc. could be busier. However, this doesn’t have to necessarily bother you as a backpacker. You will probably meet more Australian students because then they are off and have the freedom to travel, too.
