Travel tips for Australia

All the travel tips for backpackers, low budget travellers, families and more!

First time in Australia

Australia is a modern country, like European countries. It is a (so called) ‘developed country’. You should not think that when you go to Australia, you will go to the ‘bush-bush’ (you might end up there ;-). The cities are just like you're used to in Europe, they are modern, busy and there is lots of public transportation by underground, tram, bus, sky-rail or even by boat. Also they fallow the newest fashions (although the fashion there is more adapted to the climate of Australia), so you don’t need to worry that your adventure will be with a jungle jeans on!

Tip: Do not leave your country with a backpack / suitcase full of clothing. Leave some room for clothes you buy there. Only by being in Australia you will know what the weather is doing and how the climate is. Also you can buy Australian fashion.

Exciting, you're going to make your first big trip to Australia! Very nice, but what should you think of?

Travel by group to Australia

First of all you should ask yourself whether you want to travel alone, with a few others or even on a group travel. How and with whom do you want to explore the country?

Then it is wise to ask yourself how many weeks/months you want to stay in Australia and to find a matching visa. And how about your budget for the trip? Think of what you can spend per week or even per day according to your budget and travel time.

It is also wise to think of where you want to stay (hostels or campgrounds) and how you want to move from one place to another. Would you have enough budget to buy a car? Or would you rather travel by bus?

Have you thought about what kind of airline ticket(s) you would like to buy? Have you thought about your gear for your trip and what do you still need to buy?

You will want to do as many fun things as possible once you are in Australia but all in all this will cost you. The trick is to live as economically as possible in order to save money for the true fun stuff! There are dozens of good saving tips to do as much as possible for as little as possible.

Finally you should also consider the validity of your passport, other important files and figuring out a suitable travel insurance.

Once you have got all these things sorted out, you will have the foundation of your first big trip. After this the thing is to work out more detailed things such as where do I want to go and what can I see there? Shall I keep a travel blog online? What will my packing list look like? And on which expenses can I save big money during my trip?

Finally, do the checklist. Have I got everything packed and organized for my trip to Australia?

Best of luck!
