Room and Board

Working for room and board in Australia

To save money, you might consider to work in Australia for board and lodging. Namely you will receive free sleeping facilities (and food/drinks) in exchange for your labor.

Hostels

Australia provides overnight facilities. Hostels are the most popular among the backpackers and low-budget traveller. Even nowadays, many hostels in Australia have more luxury offers.

When you would like to save money on your Australian journey, you might work for board and lodging. You can offer yourself as a helper/co-worker in the hostel in exchange for free accommodation.

Many Australian hostels offer these arrangements, but often have long waiting lists. It is therefore advised to contact the hostel in advance to ask them to put you on the waiting list or to ask them if they know when they will need a helper in a longer term. Now you will be able to customize your itinerary. When you arrive at the hostel, after some weeks, you might be able to start right away.

Please note that there are some hostels ONLY will provide you work when you are in possession of a work (and Holiday) visa. Mention that you may or may not have a work (and holiday) visa and ask for the possibilities.

Tips for writing an email to Hostels

1.Ask them if they have the possibilities to work for board and lodging

2.Tell them if you are in the possession of a work (and Holiday) visa.

3.Ask them how many hours you need to work, for one week of free accommodation.

4.Explain to them that you intent to stay a longer time of period. The chance that they want to hire you, might be bigger. (When you got the job it does not matter when you leave erlier because there are enough people who would love to adopt 'the job'. Are you planning to stay for a short time of period, simply write nothing about it).
