Bring Your Own (wine)

Bring Your Own (wine)

In Australia, you can save a lot of money by bringing your own bottle of wine to a restaurant with a BYO logo. What does this mean? BYO means: Bring your own.

BYO is a thing because not all restaurants have a liquor license. You’re allowed to bring your own bottle of wine with you to a restaurant with a BYO logo, but this is not free. However, the costs are always lower than the costs of a glass/bottle of wine in a restaurant. Think of like A$2-A$15 per bottle or per person.

Most of the times in bigger cities you can’t bring your own wine and everywhere in Australia you’re also not allowed to bring it into a pub. In the smaller cities/villages you are allowed to bring your own wine!

Keep an eye out for the BYO logos on the windows of restaurants, or just ask inside. Always mention to the waiter that you’re opening your own bottle of wine. The waiter can keep that in mind and this way there’s no way of miscommunication.
